DMSF Introduces New Executive Director

The Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund welcomes Jose R. Rodriguez as its new Executive Director, succeeding Andy David who in August announced his plans to retire after nearly 11 years in the role.

Jose comes to DMSF after 16 years at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School where he is Vice President of the Corporate Work Study Program.  He also serves in the same role at Christ the King Jesuit High School.  During his time at the two schools Jose has successfully grown the program, which serves close to 1,000 students, into the largest jobs program for youth in Chicago.

Jose will bring to DMSF a deep passion for the mission of educating Chicago students.  In addition to his demonstrated ability to share this passion with donors, Jose exhibits the leadership skills to move our organization forward and build on existing momentum as we aim to serve 500 scholars.  We, of course, share his conviction that the DMSF mission is “compelling, relevant and significant” and that it enables students to “change the course of their lives in a positive way.”

Jose is a lifelong Chicagoan.  He graduated from DePaul with a BA in Communications and earned a MBA from Loyola.  His civic leadership includes memberships on the boards of Arrupe College of Loyola University and Advocate Health Care/Advocate Bethany Fund.  He sits on the Chairman’s Advisory Council of Big Shoulders Fund and was a member of the 2013 cohort of the prestigious Leadership Greater Chicago.  On a personal level Jose has firsthand knowledge of our awesome Scholars as his wife Patty is a DMSF alum!

DMSF is extremely grateful for Andy David’s extraordinary leadership.  Led by his inspired direction DMSF has experienced significant growth in the way we serve our scholars.  Providing more scholarships than ever before while continuing to offer a rich array of support services for our talented Scholars places the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund at the forefront of educational organizations in Chicago.  The remarkable accomplishments of our Scholars are a powerful testament to Andy’s influence.  The organization has benefitted from his vision, dedication and genuine concern for all DMSF Scholars.  Thanks to Andy’s many contributions DMSF with its amazing staff is poised to prosper in the work we do on behalf of our Scholars.  Efforts are underway to celebrate Andy’s success and you will hear more about that soon.

I appreciate the dedication of the board members who served on the Search Committee and others who participated in the process. DMSF partnered with Koya Leadership Partners, a national executive search firm that specializes in leading searches for mission-driven clients.

Jose will begin his time as DMSF Executive Director on February 20.  In the coming days we will follow up with news about a welcome event .  We are thrilled that he will lead DMSF as we continue to “ignite potential and enrich lives!”
