Andy David, Executive Director, announces plans to retire

Dear DMSF Families, Alumni and Partners,

We write to you all with bittersweet news to share. After 10 years of dedicated service to the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund, Andy David has decided to step down as Executive Director. He will remain in his role until a successor is chosen.

A capable and dedicated leader, DMSF has seen phenomenal growth under Andy’s leadership. Our current strength as an organization is due largely to his efforts. During his tenure we have seen record breaking fundraising, enlarged our staff, increased the number of Scholars we serve and strengthened our partnerships.

Andy’s passion and commitment to ensuring the success of promising young men and women has been instilled in all of the staff, board members and volunteers who have worked with him.

It has been a privilege to have such a capable team leader. Andy’s legacy as Executive Director will not only be the growth of the organization, but the strength with which we are able to move forward and continue to innovate and serve.  We anticipate that Andy will continue to be a part of DMSF in a role to be decided at a later date.

Anyone who is interested in learning more about the Executive Director position should contact DMSF Board Chair Nancy Van Grinsven at nancy@dmsf.org.

Golf Classic 2017

This year’s Golf Classic was an incredible day for the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund. Not only did we break a number of our own records by hosting our largest event yet, but in one night, our supporters helped us raise an astounding $1.7MM! Hundreds of Murphy Scholars will count on that support as they journey to and through college-preparatory high schools next year.

Giving Season

There has never been a better time to be more involved and invested in the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund.  This year DMSF needs you even more as we begin to strategically grow the number of children that we support from 374 Scholars attending 80 different partnership schools today, to 500 Scholars by the fall of 2020.

We want to help more qualified, motivated children who could become tomorrow’s leaders.  So as 2015 draws to a close, we urge you to make DMSF one of your top philanthropic choices with your donation today.

Forward to 500

forward-logo-v9 2

In celebration of DMSF’s 25th anniversary, its Board of Directors has approved a plan to grow DMSF’s student body by 40%, to 500 Scholars, by the year 2020.

The need is clear. Students who come from families which lack economic resources have few options when it comes to the high school they attend. Unfortunately, many of the City’s public high schools are not adequately preparing their students for college, as evidenced by the fact that only 14% of students who enter a CPS high school will eventually graduate with a four-year college degree.

DMSF has over 25 years of experience and a proven track record for not only supporting our Scholars through high school but also providing them with the resources they will need to succeed in college. As happens virtually every year, 100% of the graduating seniors in DMSF’s Class of 2015 were accepted to and have enrolled in college. There were 18 DMSF seniors who were awarded an Evans Scholarship, and many others who will be attending college with full financial aid. The list of colleges that this year’s DMSF graduates will be attending includes: University of Illinois at Urbana, Northwestern, Cornell, Williams, Pitzer, Pomona, Smith, Yale, Swarthmore, University of Chicago, Marquette, and Loyola.

With your help, we will change the lives of thousands of families in the city of Chicago. Please consider a gift today. Contact Brook McNulty for more information at (312) 455-7808 or brook@dmsf.org
